Parents’ Code of Ethics
- I will provide positive support, care and encouragement for my child participating in youth sports.
- I will encourage good sportsmanship by demonstrating positive support for all players, coaches, and officials at every game, practice, or other youth sports event.
- I will place the emotional and physical well being of my child ahead of a personal desire to win.
- I will support coaches and officials, in order to encourage a positive and enjoyable experience for all.
- I will remember that the game is for the youth athletes, not for adults.
- I will do my very best to make youth sports fun for my child.
- I will ask my child to treat other players, coaches, fans, and officials, with respect regardless of national origin, age, race, sex, creed, or ability.
- I promise to help my child enjoy the youth sports experience by doing whatever I can, such as being a respectable fan, assisting with coaching, or providing transportation.
- If, at any time, there is a perceived problem with a coach’s handling of my child, I will bring it up with the coach in a private, appropriate and civil manner.
- If, at any time, I feel uncomfortable approaching the coach with a question or concern, I will speak to the Board of Directors’ “liaison” that is assigned to my child’s team.
- I will remember and respect the fact that all coaches and program directors are volunteers who are giving their free time to ensure that my child has a safe and successful program to participate in.
- I understand this is a travel program. I understand that players are required to get at least 8 minutes of playing time per game during the regular season on teams with 10 players, 6 minutes for teams with 11 players and 4 minutes for teams with 12. I understand that playing time is totally at the coach’s discretion during the playoffs.
- I understand that there could be conflicts with house league and travel playoffs. Efforts have been made by the Parkway Travel Basketball and the house league to avoid this, but there are no guarantees. I understand the travel program expects to be the top priority in any conflict. I will not complain to the house league or city officials about any conflicts, should they arise.
- I will not hold Parkway Travel Basketball or Metrowest Basketball responsible for any incidents where there is no proven negligence on the part of these organizations.
- I will ensure that my child’s uniform will be returned in a timely manner after the season. If my child’s uniform is not returned, our family will pay the $75 replacement fee.
