Code of Conduct

Parkway Youth Travel Basketball

Player Code of Conduct

Player Responsibilities

The purpose of this is to define a code of ethics that all players are expected to abide by. The actions of players must exemplify sportsmanship and good conduct. Any player who is involved in a verbal or physical altercation, or an incident of unsportsmanlike conduct, at the game site or any other Parkway activity, is subject to disciplinary action by the Parkway Travel Basketball Board of Directors.

Players’ Code of Ethics

  • I will be positive about my youth sports experience and accept responsibility for my participation
  • I will encourage good sportsmanship from fellow players, coaches, officials and parents at every game and practice by demonstrating good sportsmanship.
  • I will attend every practice and game that I can, and will notify my coach if I cannot.
  • I understand that if I miss practices or games, that it can affect the playing time that I receive.
  • I will do my very best to listen and learn from my coaches.
  • I will treat my coach with respect.
  • I will treat my teammates with respect.
  • I will treat opposing coaches, opposing players, officials and fans with respect regardless of national origin, age, race, sex, creed, or abilities and I will expect to be treated accordingly.
  • I deserve to have fun during my sports experience and will alert parents or coaches if it stops being fun.
  • I will encourage my parents to be involved with my team in some capacity because it is important to me.
  • I will remember that sports are an opportunity to learn and have fun.
  • I will not hold Parkway Travel Basketball or Metrowest Basketball responsible for any incidents where there is no proven negligence on the part of these organizations.

By acknowledging this document through the program’s website, I am confirming that I have read and understand the Parkway Youth Travel Basketball Code of Conduct.  I agree to abide by this Code of Conduct and understand that violations can and will result in necessary actions by the Board of Directors to address any issues and ensure that they are not repeated.

Parent/Guardian Code of Conduct

Parent/Guardian Responsibilities

The purpose of this is to define a code of ethics that all parents/guardians are expected to abide by. The actions of parents/guardians must exemplify sportsmanship and good conduct. Any parent/guardian who is involved in a verbal or physical altercation, or an incident of unsportsmanlike conduct, at the game site or any other Parkway activity, is subject to disciplinary action by the Parkway Travel Basketball Board of Directors.

Parents’ Code of Ethics

  • I will provide positive support, care and encouragement for my child participating in youth sports.
  • I will encourage good sportsmanship by demonstrating positive support for all players, coaches, and officials at every game, practice, or other youth sports event.
  • I will place the emotional and physical well being of my child ahead of a personal desire to win.
  • I will support coaches and officials, in order to encourage a positive and enjoyable experience for all.
  • I will remember that the game is for the youth athletes, not for adults.
  • I will do my very best to make youth sports fun for my child.
  • I will ask my child to treat other players, coaches, fans, and officials, with respect regardless of national origin, age, race, sex, creed, or ability.
  • I promise to help my child enjoy the youth sports experience by doing whatever I can, such as being a respectable fan, assisting with coaching, or providing transportation.
  • If, at any time, there is a perceived problem with a coach’s handling of my child, I will bring it up with the coach in a private, appropriate and civil manner.
  • If, at any time, I feel uncomfortable approaching the coach with a question or concern, I will speak to the Board of Directors’ “liaison” that is assigned to my child’s team.
  • I will remember and respect the fact that all coaches and program directors are volunteers who are giving their free time to ensure that my child has a safe and successful program to participate in.
  • I understand this is a travel program.  I understand that players are required to get at least 8 minutes of playing time per game during the regular season on teams with 10 players, 6 minutes for teams with 11 players and 4 minutes for teams with 12.  I understand that playing time is totally at the coach’s discretion during the playoffs.
  • I understand that there could be conflicts with house league and travel playoffs.  Efforts have been made by the Parkway Travel Basketball and the house league to avoid this, but there are no guarantees.  I understand the travel program expects to be the top priority in any conflict.  I will not complain to the house league or city officials about any conflicts, should they arise.
  • I will not hold Parkway Travel Basketball or Metrowest Basketball responsible for any incidents where there is no proven negligence on the part of these organizations.
  • I will ensure that my child’s uniform will be returned in a timely manner after the season.  If my child’s uniform is not returned, our family will pay the $75 replacement fee.
